Blake's musical journey began at 13, learning guitar, bass guitar, and upright bass. He performed with his school orchestra in middle school and joined both the jazz band (on upright bass) and vocal jazz band (on electric bass) in high school. Furthering his studies, he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Bass Performance from McNally Smith, where he expanded his knowledge of music theory, composition, finger-style guitar, and piano across multiple genres.

Besides teaching, Blake actively performs and records music in the Twin Cities area. He plays shows with the Blue Ribbon Bandits and various other projects and collaborations. His experience includes performing at weddings and events for the Blue Water Kings and serving as a church bassist throughout the Twin Cities. Blake has shared the stage and recorded with notable local talents such as Boogie Wonderland, Mikel Wright & the Wrongs, Sonically Speaking, Sarah Morris, Javier Trejo, Jimmy Bayard, Ben Cook-Feltz, 2 Mile Final, and the Devon Worley Band.
